WHAT IT'S LIKE INSIDE
Inside each container is a striking set that establishes the scene. You're seated inside, headphones on, in complete darkness - the kind of dark where your hand disappears in front of your face. Sound leads. You may sense someone beside you, feel the space shift, or feel a little movement. Some of it is real. Some of it is your own mind. In the dark, it isn't always easy to tell which. You stay in your seat throughout, and each experience runs for around 20 minutes.
WHAT DARKFIELD IS NOT
It isn't horror. The intensity is psychological - there is nothing chasing you.
It isn't VR. No virtual headsets with visuals - just headphones and darkness.
It isn't a ride. There may be some movement, but it's not the main event.
It isn't a podcast or a traditional story arc. You're inside it, in the dark, inside a strange world built around you through sound.
It's a small, strange piece of theatre that happens inside your head.
IS IT SCARY?
It can be psychologically intense, not horror. No jump scares. No actors in the dark with you. Nobody touches you. The container is enclosed and the darkness is complete - but the CCTV is on, our team is right at the door, and you can take off your headphones at any time. You're never locked in. If you're not sure it's right for you, read the FAQs, accessibility notes and show warnings first.
THE EXPERIENCES
WHERE IT CAME FROM
DARKFIELD began with David Rosenberg and Glen Neath, who started working together in 2012. Their first shows - RING in 2013, then FICTION - sat audiences in complete darkness in headphones, with no performers to watch. Touring those shows, every room sounded different and kept breaking the illusion, so in 2016 they founded DARKFIELD and built the work into a sealed shipping container they could control completely. SÉANCE was the first. Every container show since has started from the same idea: take away sight, and sound can build a world your mind treats as real.
SEE IT FOR YOURSELF
DOUBLE was selected for the Venice International Film Festival in 2020 - the first audio-only experience ever chosen for its Venice VR Expanded programme.
Don't take our word for it. See what people post and say after they step out of the container.
WHEN YOU VISIT
Here's what to expect.
- Choose your shows. Book a ticket or a bundle. Each runs around 20 minutes - two or three is a good first visit.
- Arrive 10 minutes early. Our team checks you in and answers anything before you go in.
- Get the briefing. A short rundown: where to put your bag, staying in your seat, and that it all happens in the dark.
- Take your seat and put your headphones on. Left ear left, right ear right.
- Lights out. The experience begins. You stay seated throughout.
- The lights come back up. You're still, somehow, just sitting in a shipping container.
